Services to the Community

Back to School Resource Fairs

Each year, we host events in each of our counties where children can receive free backpacks and school supplies. To be eligible, your child must be entering Kindergarten through Sixth Grade and present at the event. Anyone is invited to attend the resource fair nearest them, regardless of where they live. Look for information from your child’s school in May and ads on TV and radio and in your local newspaper for more information, or check back to our Back 2 School page to find out when the next event is.

VITA tax preparation

Each year, United Way partners with BancorpSouth and other community partners to provide free tax preparation for eligible residents in our community. We begin taking calls in mid-January for appointments in late January and February. Appointments are available on a first-come, first-served basis and fill up very quickly.

If your gross annual income is $54,000 or less, you may receive this FREE service.  You may be eligible for Earned Income Tax Credit and/or the Child Tax Credit.  It is possible to receive your refund in 10 to 14 days with our electronic filing system and direct deposit.  You may choose to deposit to your local bank account.

What to bring:

  • ALL wage and earning statements (W2 forms)
  • Photo Identification (driver’s license)
  • Social Security cards for everyone in the household
  • ALL interest statements (form 1099-INT)
  • Child Care information
  • Previous year’s tax return
  • ANY other relevant information about income and expenses
  • Joint filers MUST come together.

familyWIZE Prescription Drug Card

Many people in our community have to make the tough choice between buying their medications and paying for other necessities such as food or utilities.  The familyWIZE program makes it easy and affordable for everyone to care for the needs of their family.   Receive discounted pricing (an average of up to 30%, usually more) on prescription drugs when you show participating pharmacies your FamilyWize Prescription Discount Card. There is no enrollment, activation process, or fees associated with the card. The card can be used by anyone without health insurance, during deductible periods, or for prescription medicine not covered by health insurance, Medicare, and other benefit plans. You pay either the discounted price or the pharmacy’s retail price, whichever is lower.
