ALICE®, an acronym for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed, is a new way of defining and understanding the struggles of households that earn above the Federal Poverty Level, but not enough to afford a bare-bones household budget.

On August 24, 2021, the Mississippi United Ways Association released the first Mississippi ALICE Report with data about ALICE households within the state as of 2019. Since the data was collected, the current Covid-19 pandemic has had an even larger affect on already fragile ALICE households, and some families who were just making ends meet have now fallen below the ALICE threshold.
