Could a meal delivery save a life? If the meal is being delivered by Three Rivers Area Agency on Aging, it just might!
During a regular delivery route, a Three Rivers volunteer knocked on the door of a regular client. He knew that the client usually came to the door when he visited so he became concerned when she didn’t answer his knock. The volunteer went inside to check on the senior and called her name. Still no answer. He continued inside and found the client on the floor, passed out and unresponsive. The volunteer called an ambulance and waited with the client until help arrived. Thankfully, the client received the medical treatment she needed and is doing great today, thanks to the intervention of her Three Rivers volunteer!
Three Rivers provided over 100,000 meals and served about 500 seniors in Itawamba, Pontotoc, and Union counties last year. But in addition to providing much needed nutrition, the Home-Delivered Meals program provides a daily visit and welfare check for these seniors. Often, the delivery person is the only person the client might see all day. The daily visits and meals help Three Rivers clients remain both independent and safe in their homes.
