2011 Campaign Celebration
On Friday, February 17, 2012 over 250 people gathered at First United Methodist Church in Tupelo to celebrate the 50th United Way Campaign. The goal was $2.2 million and even in this economy we were able to not only meet but pass that goal… Because of the generosity of the residents of our seven counties we raised $2,290,815. We continue to see the generous community spirit of the people of Northeast Mississippi… reaching out and helping each other.
The event was decorated with pictures of the journey that United Way has taken since 1961. Two very special guests were there to help celebrate, Mr. “Mem” Leake and Mr. Jack Reed, Sr. These two gentlemen along with George McLean, Cliff Eason,John Osberg, John “Red” Rasberry and Dr. J.G. Berry gathered to form the Lee United Neighbors. It was with vision and determination these men started LUN. It is that same “spirit” that allows United Way of Northeast Mississippi to thrive today. What started as LUN has grown and changed in the last 50 years; but, the mission is the same. United Way of Northeast Mississippi may have turned 50 but the celebration was really about YOU – our corporate partners, our donors, our volunteers and our agencies! When we work together as a community, we can do more than ever thought possible. In 50 years United Way of Northeast Mississippi has raised $38,470,299.
